Welcome
This is the official website of the Lakes Line Community Rail Partnership. Our aim is to bring more people into the heart of the Lake District by train rather than by car. Be inspired and travel by the Lakes Line to one of England's most beautiful destinations.
The Lakes Line links the destinations of Windermere, Staveley, Burneside, Kendal and Oxenholme. With direct services to Manchester Airport and connections to the West Coast Mainline at Oxenholme or Lancaster, the Lakes Line is a great way to travel to and from the Lake District. Windermere is only 2 hours journey by train from Manchester Airport and even less from the city centre. You can even leave London at breakfast time and have lunch in the Lake District.
Over 13 million visitors come to southern lakeland every year and many come by car. Avoid the traffic and enjoy the views from the modern, comfortable train. Try it. There is much to see and do, year round. If you need professional Blue Badge Guides to show you round, have a look at www.cumbriatouristguides.co.uk
For a brief history of the line and more about the work of the line's Rail User Group, have a look at the Lakes Line Rail User Group's website, and for more railway history throughout Cumbria have a look at The Cumbrian Railways Association Website.
